Vacation Homes: Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach North Carolina home buying, real estate listings, and homes for sale in New Hanover County, NC

Vacation Homes

Sandy and I vacationed in Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and Carolina Beach for years. The winters were tough in upstate New York where we lived, and summer seeming to take forever to arrive. We loved coming down here where the weather was great, the air was fresh, and the southern hospitality warm and welcoming. One day it dawned on us that we should buy a vacation home here.

We bought a starter home, loved it, sold it, bought something bigger, and eventually decided to just move here.

Vacation homes in Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and Carolina Beach can provide you with a fantastic getaway AND a lucrative financial investment. Access is made easy by the close proximity of Wilmington International Airport, and we are within a pleasant day’s drive from DC and Atlanta.

Here you will find every form of leisure, from relaxing on the beach, to fishing, golfing, music, museums, and unparalleled American history. In the future, cruise ships will come and go from Port Wilmington—the river is currently being dredged to make this dream a reality.

There’s always something going on around here, be it the Azalea Festival, with its garden tours and crowning of the Azalea Queen, to a movie being filmed and glamorous stars being spotted in the local restaurants. The many old fashioned draw bridges force a slower pace among motorists and pedestrians as boats navigate the waterways.

Explore our many neighborhoods  to find the most attractive, relaxing spot for you. If you’re interested in a vacation home on the water, our intracoastal waterways connect you to four unique beaches where you can actually spread out on the sand – Wrightsville, Kure, Carolina, and Topsail. You may notice the lack of commercialism—there are no chain restaurants or casinos to obscure the beauty. Instead, you’ll discover charming homes of all styles, from cottage beach huts with great rocking porches, to condos and multi-level homes full of amenities.

If you prefer the lush green of the golf course, Porters Neck is a highly sought after golf course community due east of Wilmington. Or the gated community of Landfall, located 5 minutes from Wrightsville Beach, includes villas, townhomes, large custom built homes, two golf courses (developed by Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye) and magnificent estates.

Our River Walk in Wilmington is a beautiful example of the rehabilitation our downtown is going through, with shops, restaurants, and condos in upscale mixed use neighborhoods. Many of the buildings in and around the downtown area are registered with the National Register of Historic Places.

Appreciation on homes and undeveloped land has grown by leaps and bounds in Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and Carolina Beach, in some cases by as much as 200%. Even in this buyer’s driven market, our figures are far outpacing other markets in the country. Yet this stunningly beautiful and peaceful area is just beginning to be discovered, which means that prices are still relatively low. Starter homes can be had for anywhere from $150,000 up to $5 million, with a wide range of styles to choose from.

Real Estate Tips
Investment Real Estate >Investment Property

Individuals who invest in real estate are doing very well these days. The potential for income, appreciation and possible tax savings makes investment property especially attractive.

It is important for you to get professional advice before you decide to buy investment property. You may want to start with a personal financial advisor who can help you set your investment goals. Your real estate agent can help you select a competitively-priced property that meets these goals, and can answer questions about why a particular property would be a solid investment. What features would make it easy to rent? What kind of maintenance expenses are you likely to incur? What will your cash flow be, and how will the tax savings affect your bottom line? While agents cannot predict how much a particular property will appreciate, they can give you the history of price trends in the market area.
