Wilmington NC Vacation and Retirement Homes
What Kind of Homes and Communities will I find in the Cape Fear Region?
The Wilmington area and Cape Fear Coast have homes on the ocean, Intracoastal Waterway, rivers, creeks and ponds. Here you will find historic homes with character, suburban and urban living along with country living. You can find and lovely home on the waterfront or within 5 minutes or 25 minutes to a beach, shops or restaurants.
Explore our many neighborhoods to find the most attractive, relaxing spot for you whether it be for retirement or for a second home. If you’re interested in a vacation home on the water, our intracoastal waterways connect you to four unique beaches where you can actually spread out on the sand – Wrightsville, Kure, Carolina, and Topsail. You'll notice the lack of commercialism— meaning there are no chain restaurants or casinos to obscure the natural beauty of this area. Instead, you’ll discover charming homes of all styles, from beach cottages with great rocking chair porches, to condos and multilevel homes full of amenities. Most of our homes are stick built with exteriors of Brick, vinyl, wood and hardiboard which is a cement product rated like brick. You will also find condominiums, town homes, and patio homes.
If you prefer the lush green of the golf course we have 2 gated communities to choose from. Porters Neck is a highly sought after golf course community which is situated in northern Wilmington. Next, is our gated community of Landfall, located 5 minutes from Wrightsville Beach. In Landfall you will fine villas, town homes, large custom built homes, two golf courses (developed by Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye) and magnificent estates. Each community has a country club and optional dining and sports amenities.
The Village of Mayfaire is our "smart growth" community which offers single family home, condos and lofts. Click here to visit. The Town Center features department stores, restaurants, wine shop, Starbucks, World Market, Justice, a fresh food market, banks, Harris Teeter grocery store, hhGregg, Ulta, Williams and Sonoma, Cinema, O 2 Fitness, Starbucks, Brix Pizza and many many more shops and restaurants too numerous to mention. Check out this area and see for yourself what a wonderful shopping, dining and entertainment destination this is!!
If downtown living is for you, our River Walk in Wilmington is a beautiful example of the rehabilitation that our downtown has and still is going through, with shops, restaurants, and condos in upscale mixed use neighborhoods. Many of the buildings in and around the downtown area are registered with the National Register of Historic Places.
How do I Get Started?
Many people jump right in and just decide to move here after one visit. Others vacation here first. We vacationed in Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and Carolina Beach before making the decision to relocate here in the 1990's. The winters were tough in Upstate New York with summers too short to enjoy so we worked to find a place where the weather was great, the air was fresh and the hospitality was warm and welcoming. We loved coming back time and time again to explore. One day it all clicked and we knew we had found home. If you know this is the area for you, the next step would be to take a tour of the area and visit a few homes with us. We will provide you with a map and a nice package of information to make it a worthwhile visit. Please feel free to contact us.
Will a Vacation Home be a Good Investment?
Vacation homes in Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and Carolina Beach can provide you with a fantastic getaway AND a lucrative financial investment. This year alone, there are many great buying opportunities to be had. Access is made easy by the close proximity of Wilmington International Airport with connections through Raleigh, Charlotte and many direct flights to other areas.
What kinds of things are there to do?
Here you will find every form of leisure, from relaxing on the beach, to fishing, golfing, music, museums, and unparalleled American history. We have seen an occasional cruise ship coming and going from the Port of Wilmington. The vision for the future would be to see more cruise ships.
There’s always something going on around here, be it the Azalea Festival with its garden tours and crowning of the Azalea Queen, the Riverfest with the Invasion of the Pirates or a movie being filmed with glamorous stars being spotted in the local restaurants.
Take a class at the community college or UNCW, join the Wilmington Newcomers Club, take in a museum or visit some of our beautiful parks and gardens. While at the beach take a walk around the John Nesbit Loop, called "the Loop" by locals. The many old fashioned swing and draw bridges force a slower pace among motorists and pedestrians as boats navigate the waterways. Our River to the Sea Bike Trail is nearly complete. Check out our blog to stay current on the area or visit on us on our facebook fan page called “365 Things to Do in Wilmington and the Cape Fear Region.” You’ll be glad you did.
As a Retiree will this be a good investment?
Appreciation on homes and undeveloped land grew by leaps and bounds in Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and Kure and Carolina Beach, in 2005 to 2006. The market has adjusted since then but we still have a busy and growing market. This stunningly beautiful and peaceful area has been discovered and property owners are still seeing an appreciation, though not as lucrative as 4 years ago. A purchase now will put a smile on your face. Low rates, great prices and money saving opportunities await you in the Wilmington area on the Cape Fear Coast.
