Hampstead
Hampstead, NC 28443 is a short drive north from Wilmington, up Market Street (route 17) through Ogden, and Scotts Hill, about 12 miles from Wilmington's city limits. Hampstead has to be considered as rural, a bedroom community of Wilmington, and very attractive to young families.
The Topsail Schools are some of the best in the state, and are continuously receiving high academic marks! Parents love that, and it shows in all their community school spirit. Hampstead is home to schools that serve parts Topsail Island, currently there are two elementary schools... North Topsail Elementary and South Topsail Elementary. There are approved plans for a third school, Central Topsail Elementary, in the near future. There is one middle school, Topsail Middle School and one high school, Topsail High School . A new high school is just about completed to replace the present one due to the tremendous growth of the area. All of these schools have received the highest honors available in the State of North Carolina.
The growth in this area will increase in coming years as a county water and sewer system are installed. Builders have also helped with large residential projects that have included private water and sewer systems for the residents. There are plans for an "outer loop" a bypass around Hampstead that will tie in to the new I-140 bypass around Wilmington to the south and west. This will greatly improve infrastructure for more growth in the area, and to help alleviate traffic concerns on Route 17 through Hampstead.
Golfers love the area! Four golf courses in Hampstead's town limits...Castle Bay, Old Point, Belvedere, and Topsail Greens, all within 5 miles of one another. Castle Bay is our favorite as it is a "links course" (which are few in the state) very challenging and always a nice cool breeze, no matter the outside temperature. We used to live on the fourth fairway of the Belvedere golf course, and it was previously our favorite...but times change. At any rate all four of these courses will not disappoint!
Hampstead's population has increased over 40% from 2000 to 2010 to about 15,000 residents, with low taxes, great schools, plenty of space to spread out, close to beaches, very low crime rate, and a economy increasing every year....this might just be a wonderful choice for your family.
