The town of Winnabow in Brunswick County has certainly changed in the last few years! Prior to the year 2000, it was a small farming town that one passed on the way to Southport, NC heading south down route 133. The building boom hit this area in 2004 and has not stopped since, in fact, 2005 Brunswick County was listed as one of the fastest growing counties in all of the United States. Winnabow had a lot to do, and still does, with that growth! New schools, new home communities, shopping centers, roads, and a few golf courses thrown in for good measure. As the city of Wilmington expanded, with people and prices going up, Winnabow became very attractive to builders and developers, as it is a short five mile drive over the Cape Fear River and the Memorial Bridge. Winnabow became a true bedroom community, lower taxes, newer and less expensive homes, yet still very close to all the areas great beaches, including the south facing beaches of Southport.
